Comment on The T Series, Part 2: Post or Pre-lactarian? by Elisa

Well, as someone coming from the post-lactarian camp, today I became an unwilling experimenter of pre-lactarianism, and have settled (in my mind, at least) the debate once and for all. You see, I was at work and the water in the kettle hadn't yet boiled, and being impatient to get to my desk to continue on something that I had previously left unfinished, I went ahead and dropped 5 sugar cubes, a teabag, and some milk in my cup. Then I added the water.

Sheesh! I got the whitest tea ever. Not appetizing. And no matter how long I left the teabag in for, I just couldn't regulate the balance to the appropriate, Elisa-liking caramel color.

As the English Gentleman (and Orwell) rightly pointed out, because the amount of milk you need varies with the strength of the tea, you can only properly judge the amount of milk required once the tea has been brewed. But to this I would add that that implies that the teabag should've already been taken out, because otherwise you're stuck trying to add the right amount of tea to the milk, something that sureley any proper English Gentleman would find inconvenient.

So, my conclusion: it is not enough to be post-lactarian, you must be post-lactarian after the tea has stopped brewing (indicated by an absence of a teabag in your cup).

Of course, if I were to hazard a guess at knowing the English Gentleman, I would venture to say that he would not favor the "teabag in cup" method. Being a proper gentleman, he probably pours the water in a teapot, and brews the tea there before serving onto teabagless cups. ;).

I promised to cook a whole meal for my wife this weekend for the first time - very exciting! I found some really simple recipes at this website, seems to be designed exactly for me, which is great! Anyway, thanks for your tips, I'll be sure to bookmark this site to read more.

Thank you so much, this was a good read. I was actually born in Spain (I'm not telling what year though!) but was moved around europe and lastly settled in the UK when I was 5. I dont remember much of the few years I was in spain, but the smell of spanish food always seems to ring a bell in me or something. Funny, how I dont remember anything except the smells, isn't it! I actually found a whole website dedicated to spanish recipes, which gave me great delight and thought I ought to share with your readers. Anyway, thank you again. I'll get my husband to add your feed to my rss thing...

Oke please explain to me. Why should we wear crocs? Even as a girl I can't think of a good reason to wear them. Maybe they have a good fit but they are just not fashionable enough! Just my 2 cents, Sorry for the crocs lovers! No hard feelings. Love Gwen

Good stuff! I went to Britain this summer and had my first ever afternoon tea with scones , and it was so delicious I thought I'd try and make my own last week. I might have deviated from the norm maybe - I found a load of random scone recipes here and made 6 different types! My friends were so happy when I brought them round for tea and scones. Great fun!
